Gaia, Greek Goddess of Earth
I heard a sayer claiming penance
and on his boxes seemed insane.
Stormed with rage he channeled Gaia;
her white eyed vengeance he maintained.
“I’ve seen a vision which showed then,
our only planet, only one;
as raped, defiled, destroyed within;
while Gaia ate men crawling from
the bubbling of an ego pan
which spit out truth and stirred in lies;
then dished out fables to command
a cauldron’s stink which plucked men’s eyes.
And so you Gentiles and you Jews;
You’ll survive? Don’t bet you would.
The bargain’s set for nations too;
and rhyme can’t stem or ever could,
the gods of earth - as well you knew”,
so said the sayer whereon he stood.
